Tour A Winter Tour – Highlights of West Cork & Mizen Peninsula

7th Jan-25th Mar 2017 Saturday Only
Todays tour of West Cork begins with a visit to Bantry, a busy market town and fishing port, located at the mouth of Bantry Bay, sitting between the Sheeps Head and Beara Peninsulas. This is a beautiful part of West Cork, where the Gulf Stream plays a significant role, nurturing growth of introduced flora and warm currents providing nutrient rich waters which feed the aqua marine industry.
After this enjoyable stop, we head to the Mizen Peninsula, tucked away in the southwest corner of Cork, it must be one of the most beautiful parts of Ireland, providing a little bit of everything that makes Ireland so unique. A visit to the Mizen Head Centre (charge) is a must see with its breathtaking location, sitting high on the cliffs with magnificent rugged coastline and swirling Atlantic
Ocean tides below.

A wonderful exhibition including the ships bridge simulator, Marconis morse-code, a scale model of the 20th course of the famous Fastnet Lighthouse and of course access to the headland… Spectacular walking routes along the cliff edge. Don’t forget your camera!!
Make sure you look out to the Teardrop of Ireland, last sighting of land for many emigrants as they crossed the Atlantic.

From here we start back to Cork City, first a stop in Clonakilty, a charming town in the heart of West Cork. A relaxing walk or maybe a cup of coffee or maybe a visit (charge) to the newly restored Michael Collins House Museum. This offers a wonderful insight into his life and will also give a visitor a view of what the house was like in its Georgian splendor. We return to Cork for approx. 6pm.
